Steadfast in the Fight: Why the 4 Be’s Matter
Last week, veterans and first responders from around the country assembled together for the week in the serene grounds of the Grand Lodge in Junction, Texas, where they left behind the weight of struggles like Post Traumatic Stress, fractured relationships, and the relentless grind of life. For one transformative week at the Mighty Oaks Foundation’s Legacy Program, they were all welcomed with open arms at the Blaylock Ranch. The hospitality was more than a home cooked meal or a comfortable bed; it was a glimpse of God’s love, poured out through the hands and hearts of those who served and manifested in newfound dignity restored, hope rekindled, and a renewed sense of purpose. But now, the real work begins. Back in the rhythm of daily life, how do you maintain the transformation and walk out your Legacy Plan?
The answer lies in the 4 Be’s:
BE in the word of God daily,
BE in prayer daily,
BE in fellowship at church weekly,
BE in contact with your cornerman continuously.

Weekly fellowship at church is our rallying point. Ephesians 4:3 calls us to maintain the “unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Surrounding ourselves with believers offers encouragement, accountability, and a shared mission. It’s a place to worship God in both spirit and truth, to love God, to and love others in a community of brothers and sisters, reflecting Christ’s love.
These aren’t just good habits; they’re spiritual disciplines rooted in the book of Ephesians, designed to keep Legacy Program Alumni anchored in Christ. Ephesians 4:1-2 urges us to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.” The word of God is our daily compass guiding us through life’s battles with wisdom and truth.
Prayer, our daily lifeline, is our opportunity to speak with Him and connects us as Ephesians 4:6 proclaims to the “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” In those moments, we lay our burdens before Him, finding strength to carry on. It’s where we’re reminded that we never fight alone, even when the world’s afflictions feel heavy.
The cornerman, our constant ally, provides wisdom and experience. Ephesians 5:32 calls us to “be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving each other in the same manner that Christ first forgave us.” Similarly, Proverbs 27:17 states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another,” illustrating the importance of close relationships in fostering spiritual growth, emphasizing the role of fellowship in helping one another avoid sin and grow in righteousness.
These disciplines aren’t easy, but they’re worth it. They’re the roots that produce good fruit, similar to the mighty oak described in Isaiah 61:3. Mighty Oaks graduates and reader alike, God has called you to this. Start today, open your Bible, pray, find a church, and call your cornerman. Commit to the 4 Be’s, not out of duty, but because God’s demonstrated love calls you to walk worthy of your calling.
