Bondage of Sin By, Gabe Delarosa

If we really want to be honest with ourselves, sometimes we choose to sin, not because we are enticed against our wills, but because we desire its forbidden fruit. We mean to say at times, “I’m a good man. I don’t do anything wrong; look at all my good deeds.”

ESV 64:6 Isaiah

The Bible tells us though, “We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”

This was but one of the many questions the men that attended our Mighty Oaks Legacy Program at the Blaylock Ranch in Junction, TX, were asking. The week was one of coming to terms with the sin in their lives and the absence of what is the most important: the absence of having Jesus Christ in their lives.

ESV 14-103:11 Psalm

Here is one of the scriptures we discussed last week that showed God’s love for us. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

Some men committed to surrender completely, lay their sins down, repent, and ask for forgiveness. For the other men, they recommitted themselves to being the men that God designed them to be from the previous commitment they once made.

We finish with a Bible scripture found in the book of James that brought our week to a close where hearts had softened, the bondage of sin was released, and walls were torn down.

ESV 8-4:6 James

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
