The War on Masculinity: How Christian Men Can Lead with Strength & Humility

The War on Masculinity: How Christian Men Can Lead with Strength & Humility

“There is a war on masculinity…a very spiritual war, but also a cultural war against men being what God has created and called them to be.”

From talk-shows to Twitter threads, the phrase toxic masculinity has become a catch-all critique. Yet, as March or Die hosts Jeremy Stalnecker and Sean Kennard argue, the real battle is deeper. There is a coordinated spiritual assault that distorts God’s design for men and undermines families, churches, and communities.

Why It Matters

  • Broken Homes Fuel Broken Futures: When a father is absent, every negative statistic rises from incarceration and addiction to mental-health struggles.

  • Two Destructive Extremes: Sinful masculinity bullies for personal gain, while passive masculinity checks out and retreats to comfort, both leave families exposed.

  • A Spiritual Strategy: Satan attacks manhood because degrading the image-bearer distorts the image of Christ the world is meant to see.

The Biblical Blueprint for Manhood

  • Protector & Provider (Genesis 1-3; Ephesians 5)”
Stand between danger and the vulnerable, meeting tangible needs.

  • Servant-Leader (“Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her.” – Ephesians 5:25)
    Lead sacrificially, not domineeringly.

  • Truth-Bearer (Philippians 2)
Model humility, courage, and integrity “strength under control,” not domination.

How to Fight Back: Four Action Steps

  1. Take Responsibility: Own the spiritual, relational, and moral direction of your home.

  2. Pursue Truth Daily: Immerse yourself in God’s Word so you can recognize counterfeits and lead with conviction.

  3. Build Brotherhood: Surround yourself with men pursuing the same goals; “iron sharpens iron” isn’t a slogan, it’s a survival strategy.

  4. Start Where You Are: Messed up? Apologize, course-correct, and move forward. God honors the man who begins again in humility.
