Spiritual Warfare: What the Bible Says & 4 Ways to Fight It

March or Die Podcast Hosts with Spiritual Warfare episode title

Spiritual warfare is real. When life feels like a battlefield, when relationships unravel, purpose fades, and the weight of everyday struggle seems too much to bear, there’s often something deeper going on. In this episode of the
March or Die, Jeremy Stalnecker and Sean Kennard tackle a powerful and often overlooked truth: we are living in the middle of a spiritual war.

This is not hyperbole. It’s biblical.

The Invisible War We’re All Caught In

Ephesians 6:12 says it plainly: β€œFor we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness…” The enemy we fight is not our spouse, our boss, or our trauma. The real battle is spiritual and strategic.

Spiritual warfare aims to stop you from becoming who God uniquely created you to be. Whether it’s resistance in your marriage, attacks on your identity, or discouragement in your calling, these struggles often stem from the same dark source. The devil wants to derail your progress, steal your purpose, and tarnish the image of God reflected in your life.

Recognizing the Signs of Spiritual Warfare

So how do you know if you’re under spiritual attack?

Jeremy and Sean lay it out clearly: if you’re feeling resistance just as you’re trying to grow, lead well, or make a breakthrough, chances are, you’re under attack. But here’s the key encouragement: resistance is often confirmation that you’re moving in the right direction.

How to Fight Back

We can’t win spiritual battles with physical tools. Punching harder, grinding more, or white-knuckling through struggle won’t win this war. We need spiritual weapons:

  • Prayer – Not as a ritual, but as a lifeline.

  • Scripture – Your sword in a dark world.

  • Worship and Fasting – Tools that realign your heart with God’s.

  • Community – Never fight alone. Isolation is the devil’s playground.

As Sean powerfully shared from his own journey, some of the fiercest attacks come not when life is falling apartβ€”but when we’re on the brink of something great. The enemy doesn’t attack what isn’t a threat. So if you’re facing pressure, take courage because you’re a threat to darkness.

Fighting From Victory, Not For It

The most hopeful truth in this episode? Jesus already won. The cross and the resurrection settled the outcome. As believers, we don’t fight for victory, we fight from it.

Still, the battles rage. But they’re not meant to break us. They’re meant to sharpen us. We need to keep marching forward.

What To Do If You’re Struggling Right Now

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, depressed, or isolated, you need to reach out. Don’t wait.

  • Call a friend.

  • Walk into a local church.

  • Search for a Bible study, small group, or support network.

  • Join the March or Die online community or subscribe to the Forward Edge newsletter to be the first to know when our Men of Action community launches.

The enemy’s first tactic is to isolate you. But God designed you for community, for accountability, and for battle-tested brotherhood.

Final Word: March Into Battle

You may be tempted to stop. To stay where you are and die. But the better choice is to march.

As Jeremy often reminds us: β€œYou can stay where you are and die or you can take one more step forward.”

Whether you’re in a firefight or a season of peace, now is the time to prepare. Spiritual warfare isn’t a someday battle,Β  it’s happening now. And the good news is, God has already equipped you for victory.

Don’t Fight Alone.

  1. Thank you for this encouragement. Right now l feel alone in my spiritual journey & battles. When l make known to my church members & Pastor, we are in a spiritual battle and many in church, baptized, hold offices in church but are still in the Kingdom of darkness, they are upset and don’t want me around. One Pastor said, l will have a hard time in the church! However, because of my spiritual experiences with the kingdom of darkness,l am aware of the battle l am in. Please πŸ™ pray for me and my family, God Bless!

    1. Us too! We have been under demonic attack for YEARS in our house… despite ongoing prayers, blessings, cleansings, constant Bible study, personal ministries, releasing all possible strongholds & footholds, etc. Our church took a very superficial approach when we sought advice & encouragement… as if to say, ‘just keep on praying and all will be fine.” Despite the tremendous blessings occurring daily under our roof in our family… we are tormented by demons every single time we lay our heads down (pounding, vibrating, and jolting us like electric shocks over & over & over), be it in bed at night or on the couch for an afternoon nap. This has been an unrelenting battle that no one seems to understand or be able to help us with. The church staff that came to bless our home (we had already blessed every inch many times over to no avail by then) seemed to expect to find some sort of tangible source for our trouble… like crystals or other garbage… but there is no such source… and we have been strong & fruitful believers for decades… witnessing incredible things/blessings from God in our lives/family for eons and helping & healing others (meaning – there are NO other signs/symptoms of trouble in our home/family/marriage/health/spiritual walk – so, this evil is like a literal house pest that physically pesters us constantly but it is unable to penetrate any deeper than physical harassment – no depression, fear, nor anxiety – although, I am angry that this darkness is stealing hours of sleep from me/us every night of my life for 8 years). Ever since we moved here to this house we cannot seem to free ourselves of this nightmare. This darkness seems to feed on our energy AND constantly disturbs sleep (a double drain on the body & mind). The only thing that ever seems to make sense after reading all of these ‘deliverance’ articles… is that ‘we are targeted & harassed constantly BECAUSE we are a constant & direct threat to the enemy.” That’s a positive reason… but it gets us no closer to the end of this exhausting & unrelenting nightmare.

  2. Everything Monroe has said almost parallels my journey, and I am currently in a battle as I write this before my phone goes out.
I’m glad I was led to this. Thank you and Blessings!!!
