Twenty individual women gathered at SkyRose Ranch in San Miguel, California, looking for hope and renewed purpose. The skies were clear, the temperatures pushed triple digits, and as always, the ranch provided a peaceful escape from the busyness and pressures of life. The Women’s Program staff and our California partners from Serving USA, Tom, Kelly, Kenny, Sue, and Cindi rolled out the Red Carpet and wasted no time making the new arrivals feel welcomed and comfortable, accepted and loved.

Something that stood out at this Women’s Legacy Program was the tangible sense of sisterhood. What an incredible gift that is when you consider how participants in our Legacy Programs rarely know anyone in their class upon arrival. They come from all corners of the country, and beyond, and have backgrounds as varied as Imelda Marcos’s shoe collection. One common denominator shared by participants and staff alike is trauma. It’s the true equalizer, isn’t it? When no other common ground is found, traumatic experiences have a way of breaking barriers and uniting us together because like it or not, if you spend any amount of time walking this earth you know trauma.

Nothing is ever wasted in God’s economy. He’ll use our good decisions, bad decisions, and even our indecision. He leverages our successes, triumphs, failures, and heart aches. He brings the right people into our lives at the right moments to shine a ray of light through our darkest times.

But even though these participants had to deal with so much in the past and continue to fight the good fight for those who are most important to them, they no longer feel they must fight alone. With their new sisters and the tools the Program provides, these Lady Warriors will have not only each other in their corners, they have the ultimate advocate, Jesus Christ, in their lives and in their hearts to supply them with the hope and purpose needed to navigate life’s challenges. “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken” Ecclesiastes 4:12. They are now woven together like a multi-strand cord that will not be quickly broken.

All of us at Mighty Oaks Foundation are so proud of these 20 women and the decisions they made while at Legacy Program, not the least of which was to keep fighting for the most important things in life by aligning their lives with their Creator.
